God's mercy is far greater and more scandalous than we often want it to be. Jonah knew God's character but did not share His heart, and the book ends by asking whether we will rejoice when undeserving people receive compassion. Jesus is greater than Jonah in every way: where Jonah ran from sinners, Jesus came for them, died for them, and rose again, giving the ultimate sign that He is the Son of God.
